Mycological examination

It involves painless collecting of the part of the nail plate and the surrounding horny masses and subjecting them to examination in a specialized laboratory. After about four weeks the result with an antibiogram is ready, it includes the list of drugs for which the fungus is not immune. Following the outcome of the study a podologist refers the patient to a specialist (dermatologist) for appropriate treatment to be started on the basis of the examination. The treatment in this case is much shorter and ensures complete healing.
